Chez Janou

This is the true definition of French food. The menu is both creative and traditional at the same time. With the euro so high, it is great to find a fairly priced Parisian. This is why you visit this great city.

I was just at this restaurant on the 3rd of May with some friends that go to Paris all the time. It was my first time to Paris and was looking forward to some great food. I was totally disappointed. There were 5 of us 2 of us ordered the lamb special that came with potatos. All we ate was the potatos the lamb was uneatable. It was all fat and no meat. Our server didn't come by for some time when we finally got her attention she asked why we hadn't told her earlier. We explained we hadn't seen her since she served the meal. The 5 of use will never go back to Chez Janou.

I studied abroad in Paris for a semester last Spring, and Chez Janou was my go-to restaurant when I had visitors or wanted a nice meal without breaking the bank. The ambiance is great, and it's a true French feel-- although it can get pretty noisy due to its popularity, so go early if you'd prefer a quieter meal. I would highly recommend making reservations, and they only take them at 2 times, I think at 7:00 and at 10:00. It's a great place to go with a group or on a date. The food is great-- my personal favorites are the salad with shrimp, avocado, and grapefruit, as well as the scallops risotto. Also, a little fun fact-- I once saw Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal there... which was surprising, because it's not particularly fancy or a celebrity hangout... It's just a great ambiance and good food!
